As a rectifier, the Kinetos® Powercharger converts the single-phase alternating current or the three-phase alternating current coming from the charging station into direct current in a battery-friendly manner, including phase shifting, and handles BMS communication, galvanic isolation and the handling of voltage changes when charging the traction battery.

Our Kinetos® Powerchargers are installed in the e-car by the vehicle manufacturer. The Powerchargers are easy to install and integrate into the e-vehicle. They are connected to the vehicle’s cooling water circuit and implemented in the powertrain. Thanks to the unique Kinetos® Warpspee technology, Kinetos® Powerchargers can be used as on-board chargers in everything from passenger cars to smaller (Sprinters, etc.) and large commercial vehicles (buses, trucks, etc.).

Data-based decisions

All data relevant to the charging process (voltage, currents, etc.) can be stored anonymously in a cache of the charger or the column and transferred to a data center for evaluation via OCPP. Based on this data, charging processes can be optimized depending on the BMS, e.g. according to the ambient temperature. Communicates with the VCU and adapts to the charging requirements of the electric vehicle.

We have successfully risen to the challenge and used our Kinetos® E-Warpspee® technology to make the battery charging process for e-vehicles as efficient and charging times as short as possible.
All Kinetos® Powerchargers charge three-phase. Unlike the mono-phase chargers common in almost all vehicles today, which use only one of three possible phases, the Kinetos® Powercharger is three times as fast. The three available phases are used simultaneously and synchronously.

High efficiency

The conversion of alternating current into direct current cannot take place without losses. The lower the efficiency, the more electricity the e-vehicle needs, and the more expensive it is to refuel. For good reason, Kinetos only uses very high-quality SiC components, which are used where the highest thermal conductivity and wear resistance are required. The high efficiency of Kinetos® Powerchargers of >93% proves that as little energy as possible is lost. In addition, the lower thermal load protects the battery.
Kinetos® offers the automotive industry (OEMs) a broad selection of power chargers in a wide range of performance classes. The modular design of the hardware in conjunction with the embedded software enables almost unlimited, flexible combinability of the chargers. This means that power classes for different vehicle classes can be scaled upwards almost without limit.

Modular structure

Our hardware and embedded software are modular. We rely on assemblies for the load units. Compared to the expensive and inflexible power modules of our competitors, this has the decisive advantage that new components with higher performance and better efficiency can be implemented very quickly. We only use standard components whose worldwide availability is guaranteed and are not dependent on special suppliers of the power modules. Through an additional 2-supplier strategy, we are able to avoid supply bottlenecks at any time. This design enables us, as a comparatively small company, to compete with larger suppliers to the automotive industry.
The lightweight aluminum shell of the Kinetos® Powercharger contains a fast core. At only around 15 kg, it is a lightweight. Its compact dimensions are suitable for any engine compartment.

Performance made easy

International standards

Kinetos® Powerchargers comply with international standards (CCS, Type 2, CAN J1939, etc.). We are guided by worldwide automotive and electrotechnical standards. Accordingly, our Powerchargers are housed in metal enclosures. The connectors to the charging station and the battery are extremely robust.
Delivery takes place in specially developed reusable transport packaging, which serves to protect the Powercharger and the environment. They are returned to the cycle and thus serve to transport new Powerchargers.

The DC Powercharger uses the maximum charging power and is designed for use in the high-voltage range up to 900 V charging voltage. Now the aim is to make the chargers smaller, lighter and even more powerful (30 kW per forex).

Bidirectional charging

With V2G (vehicle-to-grid), not only can batteries be charged, but the electricity can also be fed back into the power grid as needed.

Inductive charging

Charging electric cars inductively without cables is physics and not magic, comparable to inductive charging for smartphones. The electric cars are positioned for charging via the induction module embedded in the ground.

Superior electrical engineering

Kinetos® is thinking ahead of the times: 800 volts have so far only been used in industrial plants or wind turbines. Almost all manufacturers except Porsche and Kinetos think that this technology is too expensive for the road and, if at all, could only work in the luxury segment for cars. As yet, most of today’s e-vehicles and charging stations operate at 400 to 500 volts. This challenge has spurred us on to the point where we have realized 900 volts for our powerchargers (on-board chargers) and DC power columns in development. Progress is when everyone says it can’t be done and Kinetos® just does it!
